Thompson Park, 1909
From "Glen Cove - Images of America" (by Joan Harrison, 2008); LaMarcus Adna Thompson (1848-1919) is known as "The Father of the Modern Gravity Ride", and was the principal of a company which designed, built and/or managed "scenic railway" attractions in amusement parks from Coney Island to Melbourne, Australia. L.A. Thompson married Ada Nixon (1870-1965), my great grand aunt. Ada's sister, Mary Ella (1867-1925) married my great grandfather J Edward Donaldson (born Justus Edward Schwab; 1867-1936), who was a vice president and director in the L.A. Thompson Scenic Railway Co. Mary Ella's and Ada's sister Grace married Thomas Bruce Trousdell, thus closing the loop of this photograph. All three families are believed to have lived in Thompson Park, which has since been demolished and redeveloped.
