Colonial Providence, 1664
This is a cleaned-up and modernized version of the preceding map. William Carpenter (b. 1605, Amesbury, Wiltshire, England; d. 1685, Pawtucket, Providence, RI) is my 8th great grandfather (paternal). He married Elizabeth Peake Arnold, daughter of William & Christina Peake Arnold. Their son Joseph (b. 1635 Amesbury; d. 1682 in Musketa Cove, Long Island), was one of the original 'five proprietors' of Musketa Cove (now Glen Cove). In this 19th century map, William Carpenter's lot is shown a little above the midway point, and is immediately above the lot of Robert Cole[s] (b. 1597, Sudbury, Suffolk, England; d.1659, Warwick, RI), the father of three of the other four proprietors, including Daniel (b. 1642, Pawtuxet, RI; d. 1692, Musketa Cove), my 7th great grandfather (paternal).
William Arnold's lot is to the north, and two lots above that is the lot of his eldest son, Benedict. Between them is Francis Wickes (Weekes; (b.1616, Exeter, Dorset, England; d. 1689, Oyster Bay, L.I.), my 8th great grandfather (paternal).
John Throckmorton (b. 1601, Norwich, Norfolk, England; d. 1687, Middletown, Monmouth, NJ), my 9th great grandfather (maternal) has a lot four slots above that of William Carpenter, and immediate below that of Roger Williams. John Lippitt (b. 1597 in England; d. 1669 in Warwick, RI) has his 6-acre lot six from the bottom, and he's another 9th great grandfather (maternal).
